SNCF uses Solution-Soft's Time Machine® and Product Suite to Test Critical Railway Traffic Management Systems

About SNCF

SNCF ("French National Railway Company") is France's national state-owned railway company. Founded in 1938, it operates the country's national rail traffic along with Monaco, including the TGV, on France's high-speed rail network. Its functions include operation of railway services for passengers and freight, and maintenance and signaling of rail infrastructure. The railway network consists of about 32,000 km (20,000 mi) of route, of which 1,800 km (1,100 mi) are high-speed lines and 14,500 km (9,000 mi) electrified. About 14,000 trains are operated daily.

As one of the largest railway companies, the SNCF was ranked 22nd in France and 214th globally on the Fortune Global 500 list.

GOC Customization on Alstom ICONIS

As a leader in the Railway sector, SNCF is consistently on the lookout for innovative technology. In order to boost performance on the Paris-Lyon high-speed line, SNCF is looking to make a major technological breakthrough by adopting a series of technological innovations for infrastructure on the line and GOC is one of them.

GOC is a very large scale project involving many stakeholders and departments; it has a tremendous impact on the readiness of SNCF IT infrastructure to increase performance on managing railway operations & services in every spectrum of its high demand businesses.

Time Machine, Sync Server, FLS - Integral Pieces for Testing

Alstom's job is to adapt the product to fulfill SNCF requirements for its railway traffic management project. During the lengthy deployment period, high volume time shift and time sensitive scenarios are required. Solution-Soft's Time Machine, Floating License Server (FLS), and Sync Server (TMSS) have been chosen by SNCF and the Alstom team to run such critical time sensitive tests. The Alstom team develops codes to customize its ICONIS software for this project on the GOC application to meet those criteria.

For each release, developers and testers utilize Time Machine to time travel their applications and databases to test date and time sensitive logic. Developer and tester can initiate time travel by themselves without waiting for the infrastructure team for hours or days per time travel. As hundreds of user and time test scenarios need to be performed, this dramatically boosts their efficiency and productivity.
