New option for SafeVelocity supports Mass File Migrations

SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 3, 2006 — SolutionSoft Systems Inc, a global leader in virtual clock and time travel testing solutions is pleased to announce the latest extension module for its SafeVelocity file transfer solution. This latest release compliments the standard release by providing an automated, fast & efficient method to transfer tens or hundreds of thousands of files and directories.  SafeVelocity provides an enterprise-wide solution operating on all of the most common enterprise operating systems and includes a user-friendly GUI interface in all SafeVelocity Clients, including UNIX versions.

SafeVelocity’s Mass Migrator module is designed to transfer tens or hundreds of thousands of files and directories.  Traditional ftp is ill-suited for this application as it has been historically proven to be unreliable in the transfer of massive amounts of data.  In addition, standard FTP is extremely slow, especially across long distances, when compared to SafeVelocity.

According to the FTP protocol; each file transfer consists of setting up the command and data channels in the beginning and tearing them down at the end.  When this process is multiplied by tens of thousands of files; just the channel setup and tear down time alone can takes days.

SafeVelocity’s Mass Migrator module reuses the command and data channel to avoid this performance issue altogether.  This capability plus the SafeVelocity auto-resume, guaranteed transfer and auto-compression on-the-fly make it a unique and ideal solution for mass directory and file copy applications across the internet.

SafeVelocity specifically addresses the problems of transferring large files and now large file-sets (megabytes to gigabytes) over the Internet. SafeVelocity significantly increases transfer reliability, security and throughput rate. Increased Reliability – Before transferring files, SafeVelocity checks to ensure that adequate disk space exists on the target system. During transfer, SafeVelocity performs a block by block checksum. After transmission, SafeVelocity checks the size of the transmitted file size against the original to ensure complete transmission. In the event of a file size or checksum error or a broken transmission line during transfer, SafeVelocity automatically resumes the link and completes the transfer from the point of interruption.

Increased Security – Unlike standard ftp applications that transmit passwords in the clear, SafeVelocity hinders unauthorized system access by transmitting encrypted passwords. Further, SafeVelocity uses modern hacker-resistant programming techniques. Instead of invoking sub-processes like most transfer programs, SafeVelocity is a threaded application that never invokes a sub-process. Character buffers are always cleared and boundaries are always checked to foil hacking. These programming techniques significantly reduce the possibility that malicious operators can exploit these known security holes.

Increased Throughput – During transmission, transfer speed is increased using dynamic on-the-fly compression and decompression as well as parallel processing threads. SafeVelocity speeds up file transfer and optimizes network bandwidth utilization over the LAN, WAN or the Internet. Transmission can be further accelerated by delta transmission that enables only the changed portions of the file to be transferred.

Ease of Use – SafeVelocity offers both a user-friendly, easy to use GUI interface and a command line interface on all SafeVelocity client products. The command line version is familiar to users of standard ftp reducing training and administration time. Due to its open standards design, SafeVelocity is compatible with all standard ftp products.
