Time Machine and Sync Server have Successful Travel On-Premise and the Cloud in UK's Insurance Company

Project:

Customer needs time travel capability for complex application migration to  OpenShift and are looking for a time travel tool for some of their critical testing use cases. The enterprise application to be tested will be hosted on Azure (AKS) so the tool must work with AKS and Azure SQL.

Successful Demo - Time Machine & Time Machine Sync Server (TMSS) as solution:

We demonstrate using the Time Machine Pod to time travel on OpenShift and the Azure cloud with flying colors. Time Machine is hosted on Azure (AKS) and show a new Kubernetes cluster had created (AKS).

The teams are planning to time travel multiple targets for functional testing use cases, some of them in the cloud, and some on premise, and they were very happy to see Time Machine and TMSS in action to simplify license allocation. It’s compelling to the customer that TMSS enables true test automation via API URL. It is really a major breakthrough for DevOps and Scrum teams to overcome critical testing and make Agile testing and other testing delivery on time possible on a heterogeneous environment (i.e. servers farm/mainframe).

SQL on Azure:

There are usually limitations with DB as a service. (No access to the compute nodes to install TM.) On the other hand, there is no problem with IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service), with Time Machine on a SQL VM instance, as well as SQL in a container. The initial idea was to use a PaaS Azure MSSQL, but after we pointed out that it might be a challenge since we would need access to the compute node, customer is satisfied by the idea of using MSSQL in a container on AKS. Time Machine is not added to their existing Docker image, but rather, deployed to the namespace / test environment, with its own container image. Simple and easy.

The Time Machine family of products has been explored and the customer is interested in the Product Suite and thinks it would be a great solution for their migration. The four products that enable time travel with containers are 1) Time Machine, 2) TM Sync Server, 3) TM Floating License Server, and 4) Enterprise Management console (GUI).
